What's not included in Royal Caribbean, Celebrity drink packages

When you make the decision to buy an all-you-can-drink package on your Royal Caribbean or Celebrity cruise, you would think that pretty much ends any concern you have over the cost of drinks.

You would think that, but it’s not actually true. All-inclusive drink packages have exceptions including some you might never think of.

Drinks served in novelty glasses or in a pineapple of coconut are often not included. In most cases, you can still get those drinks, but added fees apply and people who have paid hundreds of dollars (sometimes as much as $110 per day) for a drink package generally don’t want to spend anything extra.

It can be confusing and the information is often not well shared.

Come Cruise With Me Executive Editor Dan Kline and PostCard Travel Planning’s Dennis Post break down everything you need to know about drink package exceptions. They give you all the details from the Crush Bar at the Martini Bar on Celebrity Silhouette while showing off a favored drink that actually costs extra.

Here’s what Royal Caribbean and Celebrity drink packages don’t include

Transcript:

Dan Kline: Hello, cruisers. I am Dan Kline, executive editor of Come Cruise With Me, but you knew that. Sitting next to me is Dennis Post.

He is our travel agent partner at Postcard Travel Planning, and we’ve talked about drink packages quite a bit. It’s a big topic here. But we’re at the Martini Bar on Celebrity Silhouette, and I want to talk a little bit about what’s not included in your drink package.

And one of them is Celebrity is kind of notorious for having drinks that are on the menu but are above the maximum cost. So we’re actually drinking a Smoking Bull. It’s a smoked drink.

It’s a little bit harder to make. And it’s $22. And they will charge you the $3, because $19 is the maximum.

Dennis, what else isn’t included on a typical cruise line drink package?

Dennis Post: So typically bottles of wine, but there would be a discount, champagnes not included. But you can get glasses of them up to that $19 mark.

Kline: You can also get, if there’s a whiskey or a tequila or something that’s above the price point, in general you will pay the difference, but it’s really important to ask that question. Sometimes there are exceptions.

So, if you want to try that Johnny Walker Blue, that whatever it is, that fancy tequila, I’m not a tequila guy, I can’t think of one, if you want to try that, just ask the bartender and make sure you’re only going to get charged the difference.

And sometimes, with some of the fancy mixed drinks, if you say, can I have the drink without the presentation, so it’s not served to you in a pirate chef, it’s not served to you in a pineapple, they might be able to bring the cost of the drink down to the maximum cost so it’s included. It does not hurt to ask.

I am Dan Kline. He is Dennis Post. Come cruise with us soon.
