Gerrard set for talks on return to Rangers – Daily Business

Rangers are set to make moves to tempt former manager Steven Gerrard back to Ibrox.
The Glasgow club are still searching for Philippe Clement’s permanent replacement having bid farewell to interim boss Barry Ferguson at the start of the week.
Speculation is growing that Gerrard, who left Saudi side Al-Ettifaq earlier this year, is the No. 1 target, with talks reportedly set to take place within the next couple of days.
The former Liverpool skipper is still based in Bahrain with his family and is thought to be open to a return to Govan where he won the league title during three years at the helm after picking up the reins in 2018.
Much has still to happen if the Anfield legend is to return to Glasgow after his departure to Aston Villa in 2021 but Rangers know the clock is ticking on a major rebuilding project as they bid to close the gap on arch rivals Celtic.
The Hoops stand on the brink of another treble under Brendan Rodgers – Gerrard’s former manager at Liverpool.
Patrick Stewart, Ibrox chief executive, knows the 44-year-old former England skipper would be a huge catch, and he will want to fill the vacant hot seat sooner rather than later ahead of what will no doubt be a hectic transfer window in the summer.
