Las Vegas Strip casino cancels rock superstar’s residency shows

Las Vegas Strip casinos have a history of needing to cancel headliner residency shows for a variety of reasons.

Life happens, such as illness, injuries, or personal issues, which require performers to postpone shows or sometimes cancel them altogether.

A few thousand fans can be disappointed and inconvenienced when a performer cancels one residency show. When a star cancels multiple shows, tens of thousands of fans can be inconvenienced, and casino hotels might see thousands of room cancellations.

In addition to canceling rooms, many visitors might have to cancel or rearrange flight plans, as well. 

Legendary hard rock band Mötley Crüe had planned its first Las Vegas Strip residency in 12 years at Dolby Live at the Park MGM but had to cancel all 11 shows scheduled in March and April 2025 because of a medical issue.

Bands cancel residency shows

Mötley Crüe revealed in an Instagram post that it needed to cancel the shows and reschedule most of them for September 2025 after lead vocalist Vince Neil’s doctors advised the singer that he required a medical procedure.

The band rescheduled 10 of the 11 residency performances for Sept. 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 24, 26, 27, Oct. 1, and 3, 2025.

Legendary rock band Santana canceled the first eight shows of its 2025 residency at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, from Jan. 22 to Feb. 2, due to frontman Carlos Santana breaking a finger in an accidental fall at his vacation home in Hawaii. 

Santana revealed that the band will return for its “An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live” residency in the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino for 15 new shows in September and November 2025.

Rod Stewart cancels five Vegas residency shows

Finally, rock superstar Rod Stewart cancelled five of his June residency shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Las Vegas on the Strip and one other Nevada show this month, since he’s suffering from the flu. The singer also rescheduled two California shows in June.

Stewart cancelled his June 1 show at The Colosseum only hours before the show, and on June 4, he cancelled his June 5 show with a message on social media.

“I’m awfully sorry to have to cancel my show June 5th at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. My doctor ordered a bit more rest while I recover from the flu. Thanks for your love and understanding,” Stewart said in the post.

The “Maggie May” singer followed up that post with an additional message on his social media sites on June 6, announcing six more schedule changes.

“I have to cancel and reschedule my six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu. So sorry friends. I’m devastated and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to my fans. I’ll be back on stage and will see you soon,” — Sir Rod. 

Stewart revealed that he needed to cancel his June 7, 8, and 10 shows at The Colosseum and a June 14 show at the Lake Tahoe Amphitheatre at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe in Stateline, which will be renamed Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino on July 1.

The “Do Ya Think I’m sexy” singer also rescheduled his June 12 show at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, Calif., for Sept. 20, and his June 15 show at Vina Robles Amphitheatre in Paso Robles, Calif., for Sept. 21.

Stewart, however, will return to The Colosseum for six shows that are scheduled for September and October 2025.
