Murray takes up role with Walker’s Shortbread – Daily Business

Tennis champion Andy Murray has teamed up with another Scottish icon after becoming brand ambassador to Walker’s Shortbread.
The appointment marks another milestone in the 127-year-old company’s history as it has never previously appointed such a figure.
An advertising campaign with Murray in time for Wimbledon has the tagline “A wee bit of Scotland that’s come a long way”.
For 38-year-old Murray, the connection to the traditional treat goes back to his childhood and to his most famous victory. He grew up eating his grandmother’s variety which is promoted in his Cromlix Hotel near Dunblane.
“Shortbread is one of my simple pleasures. No matter where I am in the world, a piece of Walker’s Shortbread always transports me back home,” he said. “We even celebrated my Wimbledon win with shortbread.
“I am proudly Scottish, and partnering with Walker’s, a brand that has been representing Scotland around the world for well over a century, felt like a great fit for me.”

Walker’s is based in Aberlour, Speyside, and is one of Scotland’s biggest exporters of food with sales into almost 100 countries. It also has a royal warrant for the supply of shortbread and oatcakes to the royal household.
It reported a £14.8 million pre-tax profit on revenue of £183.8m for 2023.
Nicky Walker, the former Scotland, Hearts and Rangers goalkeeper who now heads his family’s business, said: “We are incredibly excited to welcome Andy Murray as our very first brand ambassador.”
The partnership is one of a number that Murray has agreed outside of tennis. After ending his six month long coaching partnership former rival Novak Djokovic, the Scot will become an associate partner at London-based Redrice Ventures.
Murray, who also won the US Open, worked alongside Redrice in 2018 when he invested in Castore, the Manchester-based sportswear company. Castore created a line of performance clothing called the AMC collection, which stands for Andy Murray Castore.
He will be helping to identify other investment opportunities, particularly in the sports area
