AG Barr in talks to sell Strathmore water brand – Daily Business

Irn-Bru manufacturer AG Barr is in discussions to sell its bottled water brand weeks after announcing the closure of the factory that makes it.
The Cumbernauld-based business announced with its full-year results on 25 March that it would scrap the Strathmore brand during this financial year and its plant in Forfar would close, with more than 20 job losses.
It has now entered into exclusive discussions with a third party regarding a potential disposal of the Strathmore business.
The company paid £15.5 million for the brand in 2006 but under new boss Euan Sutherland it has decided it is longer sustainable after struggling to compete.
It has not disclosed the identity of the potential buyer though speculation includes rival Scottish water brand Highland Spring.
“These discussions are at an early stage and there can be no certainty that a transaction will ultimately occur. Further announcements will be made as and when appropriate,” said Barr in a statement today.
